Poverty Reduction Protocol
On April 2nd, 2017 MLA Scott Fraser and MP Gord Johns signed the Alberni Clayoquot Working Together To Reduce Poverty Protocol Agreement. Since this time ACHN has approached local leadership tables for resolutions to endorse the protocol agreement, the protocol has been endorsed and signed by the following local leadership tables:
- The City of Port Alberni
- The District of Tofino
- The District of Ucluelet
- The Alberni Clayoquot Regional District
- The Toquaht Nation
Presentations to local Nations and the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Executive Committee proceed with the request to local communities to engage in the following commitments:
- Actively participate in the ongoing development of the ‘Working Together to Reduce Poverty Theory of Change’ with the ACHN and other community organizations;
- Assist to organize events and campaigns to support initiatives directed at, and raise awareness of, the challenges our communities must overcome to reduce poverty;
- Where possible, access and lobby for resources to assist identified actions;
- Always consider the innate connection between poverty and health outcomes when formulating policy, planning for the future of our communities, and in our everyday activities as leaders in the ACRD.
